Technology Impacts on Society

The human brain is intelligent enough to operate independently but vulnerable enough to be easily adopted and swayed about by any changes that come its way. With the current upsurge of technology at our disposal, our brains are quickly adapting to the new environment, from drugs, to electrical gadgets and new communication channels, our brains have to keep changing to cope with the dynamic trend.

But our modern brains are also having to adapt to other 21st century intrusions, some of which, such as prescribed drugs like Ritalin and Prozac, are supposed to be of benefit, and some of which, such as widely available illegal drugs like cannabis and heroin, are not.

Electronic devices and pharmaceutical drugs all have an impact on the micro- cellular structure and complex biochemistry of our brains. And that, in turn, affects our personality, our behavior and our characteristics. In short, the modern world could well be altering our human identity.

But I do, paradoxically, see potential in one particular direction. I think it possible that we might one day be able to harness outside stimuli in such a way that creativity – surely the ultimate expression of individuality – is actually boosted rather than diminished.

I am optimistic and excited by what future research will reveal into the workings of the human brain, and the extraordinary process by which it is translated into a uniquely individual mind

Education systems the world over are taken to be the process of promoting generation and growth of knowledge. When it comes to matters technology, the education sector is expected to be in the frontline in taking over the trend. Technology is actually penetrating far into the education systems making the whole process of learning just easy.

Teachers can use the cloud to set, collect and grade work online. Students will have instant access to grades, comments and work via a computer, smartphone or tablet. Many schools are already doing this. Plus, services such as the educational social network Edmodo offer this for free.

This is where devices come in. All devices, not matter which ones we will use in the future will need to access the cloud. Each student will have their own. Either a device specified by the school or one they have chosen to bring in themselves.

School classrooms are going to change. Thanks to the cloud and mobile devices, technology will be integrated into every part of school. In fact, it won’t just be the classrooms that will change. Games fields, gyms and school trips will all change. Whether offsite or on site the school, teachers, students and support staff will all be connected. In my ideal world, all classrooms will be paperless.

With the cloud, the world will be our classroom. E-learning will change teaching and learning. Students can learn from anywhere and teachers can teach from anywhere.

The current generation and the future generations are in no doubt highly dependent on technology for their communication, especially in large volume sharing of data. With this being an information era, there is so much data being produced every day, so abundant that sharing it in the traditional means of files just can’t work. It goes without saying that the community has no choice than embrace new communication means, technological means.

With technology such a prominent feature of our world today, it’s not surprising that the younger generations are far more tech savvy than ever before, and as it continues to progress, society will only get more wrapped up with the most cutting edge gadget releases.

With the changing technological times and the significant rise in portable devices, people are turning to the cloud as the new and easy way to share their ever growing digital library of documents and files while on the move. ESG research shows that in the years to come, the majority of companies will deliver at least 20% of their applications via SaaS. Of the companies surveyed, 25% reported that they already use or plan to use SaaS to deliver collaboration and file sharing applications.

At Workshare, we have moved with the times and adapted our cloud solution to provide an easy-to-use collaboration platform to access, share, and collaborate on files from any browser-enabled device (including smartphones, laptops, and tablets). We ensure enterprise-class security through managed administration, access rights and permissions, and data encryption. Workshare’s cloud solution also enables accurate online rendering of over 200 document formats for further accessibility to documents.
